Our School

At Woodcrest, we strive to provide our students with a strong traditional curriculum that is both challenging and creative. It is our goal to prepare our students to be independent, problem-solving learners and successful citizens in the 21st century.
Woodcrest students will be prepared as:

  • Avid Learners - who love to learn.
  • Effective Communicators - who articulate their ideas through spoken and written communication.
  • Responsible Citizens - who show respect for others, have the ability to resolve conflicts in an appropriate manner, and contribute to those less fortunate.
  • Proficient Users of Computer Technology - who possess keyboarding, word processing, and Internet skills as tools for learning.
  • Appreciators of the Fine Arts - who are active participants in the visual and performing arts.
  • Successful Middle School Candidates - who have a solid foundation of basic, academic knowledge and study skills.

Year after year, Woodcrest students score among the top 13% in the nation in standardized tests. We attribute that to our wonderful teachers and high educational standards. Through your years at Woodcrest, you will see your child developing foundational skills in literacy and math, developing social awareness and responsibility, and experiencing the joys of discovery. Here’s a closer look at our academic course load.

At Woodcrest, we give careful attention to providing a smooth transition from preschool to kindergarten. Our primary goal is to help our students develop the skills for successful learning; we do it in a safe and nurturing atmosphere in which each child develops cognitive, social, and fine-motor skills. Woodcrest’s kindergarten program recognizes the developmental differences in children and provides the structure necessary for individualized attention.

We provide our students the opportunities for academic excellence. The outstanding foundation they receive at Woodcrest will serve them now and in their future academic endeavors. Our 1st – 5th grade academic studies include:

Student Council

The Woodcrest Student Council is comprised of elected students from third through fifth grade. Student candidates campaign with their peers at the beginning of the school year, with the election officers and class representatives. Each member of the student council participates in school-wide activities, makes decisions, conducts service projects, and experiences democracy in action. Officers also present ideas to the principal for consideration. Elected student leaders experience responsibility, teamwork, pride, and the opportunity to debate issues and interact with fellow students. Student council is a great segue to becoming an informed, active citizen.

Gifted Education

We have designed the Woodcrest School Gifted Program to meet the needs of intellectually and/or academically advanced children. In this specialized setting, Woodcrest groups self-motivated students to participate in an enriched and accelerated curriculum.

Our highly regarded gifted program is recognized for providing high achieving students with a curriculum of intellectual and creative challenges. As top scorers in national tests, our students' achievements attest to the success of this program.

The ability to work independently and achieve academically are requirements for admission to this fast-paced program; students in 2nd-5th grades are eligible. Our Principal and Program Coordinator evaluate students’ standardized test scores, classroom performance, and teacher recommendations for placement into the program. Our experienced team of teachers gives instruction within self-contained classrooms, but enrollment is limited.

For more information, please contact our front office.

As one of the original founders of the Valley Interscholastic Sports Association, Woodcrest Elementary is well known for its competitive athletic program. At Woodcrest, 3rd-5th grade students may compete in soccer and basketball in the VISA sports league and participate in game competitions against other area private schools. Each sport focuses on instruction, skills, and teamwork during biweekly practices. In addition to soccer and basketball, our cheerleading team adds school spirit to each game. Cheerleaders learn routines for performance at every home game.

The Woodcrest campus is also home to the Australian Swim School club team. Students with a desire to enhance their swimming capabilities are welcome to join the club working in small groups to develop swim techniques and endurance.
